J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot of the Star Trek franchise pleased fans and studio bean-counters alike. With Abrams being a purveyor of real tactile sets, he looked to his usual art department collaborators Scott Chambliss (production designer) and Karen Manthey (set decorator) for this huge undertaking. The countless large scale sets and location shoots are simply enhanced using CGI, not smothered. Keep an eye out for the interior of a Budwieser brewery doubling as the Enterprise engine cooling room and for the Hadi Teherani designed silver office chairs used on the bridge of the USS Kelvin.Read more »
